The applicants, Murat Bozlak, Bahattin Günel and İsmail Arslan, are Turkish nationals who were born in 1952, 1950 and 1946 respectively and live in Ankara. Relying on Article 6 § 1 (right to a fair trial), they complained in particular of the unfairness and excessive length of criminal proceedings against them for membership of an illegal organisation, the PKK (Workers’ Party of Kurdistan). The Court held unanimously that there had been a violation of Article 6 § 1 and awarded the applicants EUR 1,000 each in respect of non-pecuniary damage. (The judgment is available only in French.)
